I am funny but I am not a comedian. I am an athlete but I am not an Olympian or professional player. I've had some speeding tickets but I have never been in trouble with the law. I've had surgery but I have never needed hospitalization. I did not write a book, star in a movie or win any big awards. I have had challenging times and lost loved ones but I have never been in need of food, shelter or love. Some may look at my life and think it's been pretty darn ordinary but in my mind, my life has been LEGENDARY! Don't get me wrong, being a pro athlete would have been pretty cool. But I found my inner awesomeness and being my kind of awesome has made me happy, healthy and ready to help others.
I work with youth and adults to empower them and help them take control of what they feel and think about themselves. I encourage them to start to understand the power of positive, active thinking and to recognize how negative thoughts spoil our days.
During our time together we work through many different activities that help us become true to ourselves and promote the pursuance of dreams with passion. We work to debunk the myths that have been created around gender, how we should act and what we should look like. We acknowledge our fears as barriers. We discover how easy it is to engage our minds in positive ways. We discuss today's technology and what it is doing to our self-esteem as well as how to avoid the now ever-present "comparison trap". We discuss what a healthy state of wellness feels and looks like and how to cope with pressure and anxiety.
I am a certified child and youth worker. I am a professional member of the OACYC. (Ontario Association of Child and Youth Counselors) I have a certificate from Conestoga College and many certifications with a focus on mental health and youth from CMHA and WLU.
I currently am working in a local high school during the day as CYW. I have been in the education sector for about 15 years now. I have worked with many differently age groups over the years supporting the social, emotional and behavioral needs of many children.
I have been running the workshops for over a year in the community, previously I have facilitated them inside our high schools. The community workshops have been very successful with many youth returning to multiple series and working though all 22 sessions. The workshops take place at AIM learning community on the corner of Fisher-Hallman and Ottawa in Kitchener. (the old owl day care, it's now a private school)
My one on one private sessions are one to one sessions are tailored to a persons specific needs and goals. I was finding their was need for social, emotional and behavioral support in our community. This lead to adding this service to the work I do through AH Motivation.
